Why "Catcher in the Rye"? I hated that book.

"The Catcher in the Rye" was one of my favorite books growing up. I think I read Holden in a completely different way than most people do. I always saw him as a protective older brother, desperate to preserve the innocence in the world, and so over the "phoniness" of society, as he saw it.

For years, I've felt especially connected to his character, seeing the world in many similar ways. I know a lot of people interpret him as "angsty" and pessimistic, but I've always seen him as wise beyond his years, and almost other-worldly in his ability to pinpoint the flaws of society and the solutions he perceives as simple, yet missed.

I've always wanted my son to be mature in his perception of the world: Realistic, yet determined to hold on to any innocence that still exists. I want him to see the beauty in the small things, and to overlook the miserable in favor of the hopeful. So I named him Holden as a reminder of his potential as the safeguard to a better time -- both past and future.

When I designed my photo shop, I thought "Catcher in the Rye" would perfectly convey my desire to capture the beauty and innocence of the world in each frame. I see so much beauty in my every day, and if I can help others to recognize it in their own, I will consider my life as a photographer a success.

What's your favorite movie?

Depends on the genre. Practical Magic, La La Land, Miss Congeniality, and Law Abiding Citizen all come to mind... Anything but horror!

Why photography?

I've carried a camera with me everywhere I've gone for over a decade - long before we even had cameras on our cell phones. I love capturing moments for posterity, but also because they remind me that no matter how tough life can seem at times, there are magical moments just around the corner.

I keep my social media filled to the brim with color and magical moments so I can instantly remind myself during the rough patches how wonderful life truly is.

I hope to be able to capture the magic for you, as well. After all, life is so short, we might as well remember the joy.
